Monument Chemical in Brandenburg, KY is seeking qualified candidates for a Controls Engineer.


The Controls Engineer will perform a wide variety of duties essential to the manufacture of chemical products while consistently adhering to all established safety and operating procedures. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Provide safety, technical, and functional leadership for capital projects per Monument Chemical guidelines including scope definitions, budget estimates, and approvals and execution of scope, schedule, and cost along with closure.  Deliver projects on-time, within budget, and fit for purpose.  Provide monthly and project specific reports.

  • Specific focus over next 3 years will be to provide technical support and leadership for DCS conversion related capital projects.

  • Responsible for ensuring all contractual obligations are fulfilled on projects.    

  • Support development and maintenance of engineering specifications and standards.

  • With support of Electrical Engineer, order and maintain inventory of necessary spare parts for control, electrical, and instrumentation systems.

  • Organize and help manage existing network of support specialists to maintain and troubleshoot issues with control systems including data historians during both normal business hours and off hours and weekends.  Identify and develop additional support specialists as required. 

  • Execute corrective action items as assigned. 

  • Support continuous improvement along with cost and operational improvements.

  • Provide Environmental reports to HSE department on monthly basis.

  • Along with Electrical Engineer, support I&E technicians on installation and maintenance of control equipment and associated wiring and instrumentation.


  • BS in Chemical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering.  MS preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in production/engineering/maintenance role in chemical or petrochemical manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of post high school education and experience.  Working understanding of chemical industry safety standards.   

  • FE or PE license, PMP, or Microsoft certification preferred.
  • Experience with industry utilized capital project management systems with project less than $1 million preferred.

  • Experience and familiarity with DCS and PLC systems preferred.  Specific experience with Emerson Provox and Delta V, and PI data historian desirable.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of control equipment including control valves, flow/pressure/temperature meters, pumps, starters, interlocks, etc.  Demonstrated ability to master specific instrument knowledge.  Working knowledge of ISA standards desirable. 

  • Desire and ability to become expert in the field of process automation and control.  Formal training in process automation and controls theory desirable.  

  • Ability to work in an on-call capacity for plant troubleshooting and emergencies.

  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and at heights.  

  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize.  This is an individual contributor position with significant independence.

  • Good organizational, verbal, and written communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving ability. 

  • Proficiency in using SAP, MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Project.

  • Understanding of Government regulations and impact on day-to-day operations in a chemical manufacturing facility.
